Museum of shells, or malacological museum was founded by doctor of theology and estestvoznatelem Zhurom Radic within the walls of 500-year-old Franciscan monastery of St. Mary in the town of Makarska, sprawling on the Adriatic coast.

This museum is world famous and delights tourists interesting collection of sea snails and shellfish from around the world. When collecting Radic malacological collection Jour also added to the vault of the museum valuable herbarium from the slopes of the mountains, at the foot of which is Makarska. The museum also has a small collection and paleontological finds. However, of particular interest is a Malacological museum hall with seashells.

Creating and systematic replenishment of the collection is the selfless work of many natural scientists. Jour Radic Museum developed with the support of many people. He collaborated with researchers, museum workers, collectors. And especially he was assisted by his faithful friend - a theologian Franjo Karev.

The museum was opened to the public June 30, 1963 on the ground floor of the monastery. Now the museum exhibits more than 3000 shells. There you can see many species of shells, mussels and snails that are found not only on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, but also on the shores of tropical and subtropical seas. They attract the attention of unusual colors and shapes of shells.
