In the center of Kaliningrad, close to the Lower Pond is the main building of the Historical and Art Museum, formed in August 1946. Originally the museum was organized as a local history and had no building of its own, but over the years developed rapidly and formed quite a serious art collection.

Today, the oldest museum in the region is located on three floors of the historic building, where 3,500 square meters are eleven exhibition halls and the visitors are more than 120 thousand exhibits. The rich collection of the museum introduces the history, nature, geographical features of the region, as well as artistic works of Russian and foreign artists. The most valuable collections of the museum are paleontological collection of the Geological Museum of Konigsberg, a collection of samples of natural amber, Numismatic Collection - a collection and a unique collection of reference books on Russian and German languages.

Branches History and Art Museum are open exhibition "The ruins of the Royal Castle" Fort №5, the command post of the 43rd Army in the village Kholmogorovka, Kristijonas Donelaitis museum in the village of Chistye Prudy, a sculpture park and museum island Kneiphof "Dugout", previously operated as the command post of the Koenigsberg castle.

In 1991, the Regional History and Art Museum moved into the historic former municipal concert hall Stadthalle, where he remains to this day. The concert hall was built in 1912 by Berlin architect Richard Seel. During World War II the building was destroyed and stand in ruins until the beginning of the 1980s. In 1986, the Stadthalle was restored and renovated according to the drawings specifically for the museum.
