Museum of Art and pottery located in the eastern part of the area Fatahillah, near the History Museum and the Museum of wayang. The museum exposition is dedicated to the traditional art of Indonesia and the Indonesian pottery.

The building, which houses the museum was built in 1870. Initially, the building was the court during the Japanese occupation of the building was used by the army. And after Indonesia became independent, the building served as a dormitory for the Indonesian military. In addition, the building was a warehouse logistics company. In 1967, the building housed the city council of West Jakarta, the city as part of a special capital district of Jakarta. In 1974, the building was given an office research organization. The museum of arts and ceramics in this building settled in 1976, in August, the museum inaugurated President Suharto of Indonesia Haji.

The museum collection will tell visitors about traditional Indonesian handicrafts. Among the exhibits are paintings of Indonesian artists such as Raden Saleh romantic and expressionist Affandi. Important periods in the visual arts of Indonesia can be seen in the different rooms of the museum: Raden Saleh hall era (1880-1890), Hall of Hindiya Dzhelita (1920), the birth of realism Hall (1950), Hall of Contemporary Art (1960 years) and others. The museum also houses a collection of old china - the most valuable vases date from the XVI century. Visitors can explore the pottery brought from different parts of Indonesia as well as China, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan and Europe.

The museum has a ceramics workshop, where everyone with the assistance of a workshop can try on their own to make any piece of pottery.
