Museum «Narryna» - is undoubtedly one of the best museums in Hobart. This is a wonderful Georgian building, built of sandstone and brick, with walled cobbled courtyard and the barn is a popular tourist attraction. The museum is located in the midst of an old garden in the heart of Betteri Point - historical "heart" of Hobart.
Once upon a time, in the 1830s, the sea captain Andrew Heg bought the land from the first priest Robert Knopvuda colonies of Tasmania, and for three years has built a house here. Over the next hundred years in this house lived many famous Tasmanians. Interestingly, the floors in the house are made of two kinds of wood. The part, which is inhabited by the owner, put New Zealand Agathis with one of the ships Hegang. A room for the servants lined Tasmanian pine, which cost less.
In 1955 «Narryna» was turned into the first national museum in Australia, which now holds a unique collection of 19th century Australian subjects that are of great national importance. Here you can find pieces of furniture, porcelain, silver, paintings and works of art. Unfortunately, the very home furnishings Andrew Hagan has not survived, but represented in the Museum of the furniture belongs to the same time period, and describes the lives of the inhabitants of Tasmania mid-19th century. Interesting museum exhibit - a small tea table rosewood. These tables made for storing and sorting of valuable teas, which in the 19th century was the favorite drink. Most of the time the tea was kept under lock and key so that it could not steal a servant.
The barn, built Hegom today held small exhibitions and kept some of the exhibits. Of particular note is the garden, in the middle of which stands a museum - he was defeated by Andrew Hegom and, although reduced in size, still attracts visitors.
