Cathedral of St. David - the main Anglican church of Tasmania, the construction of which lasted from 1868 to 1936. Cathedral, which is the best in Australia's model of Georgian architecture, stands on the corner of Macquarie Street and Murray Street. Its architect was George Frederick Bodley. Inside you can see the stones, which is about one and a half thousand years, the ancient flags, dating from the time when Tasmania has ceased to be a place of exile, and the amazing beauty of the stained glass windows with images of saints, knights, kings and biblical characters. Along the walls are placed plaques memorializing deceased members of the church. Another distinctive feature is the entrance of the cathedral, which has an arcade with a large window and carved towers, square tower and a courtyard on the south side, planted with old trees.
The cathedral has its own choir that sings every Saturday at the liturgy and sometimes on other religious services, such as communion. To listen to the preaching of the choir come hundreds of people. There are often a variety of events - weddings, christenings, funerals. However, for this it is necessary to agree beforehand with the bishop. There is a Sunday school for children from 8 years.
Cathedral of St. David listed as national heritage of Australia.
