Betteri Point - historical "heart" of Hobart area of luxury villas, cottages and quaint sailor shipyards. His name district received from the battery of guns installed here in 1818 for the coastal defense of the city. Here one can still feel the spirit of the last century fishing village and enjoy the atmosphere of the colonial Hobart.
Once Betteri Point was a residential area, which is inhabited by sailors, and today people live here. To get here is easy - the famous Kelly Steps lead directly from the district of Salamanca.
One of the main attractions Betteri Point is the so-called circle of Arthur - a number of old houses surrounding a villa in the center of the district. Today there are a lot of tea and restaurants, pubs and cafes, souvenir shops and small private galleries.
In Betteri Point are also wonderful museums - the Tasmanian Maritime Museum and the Colonial Museum. In the latter you can see everyday objects the local people of the 19th century - dresses, umbrellas, dishes. Of particular interest is the Museum of the People of Van Diem - Georgian building in the midst of wonderful gardens.
Anglesea Barracks - an old military building in Australia - are also in Battery Point. They were built in 1811 and until recently was used as intended. Today, the barracks is a military museum in Australia. Not far from them is pretty Anglican church of St. George, built in 1836.
