At the heart of the shopping district of the city lies the "Lake of the Returned Sword." It was formed at the site of the old riverbed of the Red River, which now flows slightly to the north.
In the middle of the lake is the pinnacle, which is called the "Temple of the turtle" (Tyuap Zhua) and which is associated with an ancient legend that tells the story of a Vietnamese hero of the XV century Le Loi. One day he caught a fish here, but found a magic sword. With this sword of Le Loi led a revolt against the Chinese rulers. When the hero came to the lake, to thank the local spirits for the win, the magic sword slipped from his hand and fell into the water, where he picked up a huge golden turtle. Later, it was built, "temple turtle."
Nearby stands the Temple of the Jade Mountain (Dan Ngoc Son), inhabited by a giant turtle caught in 1968. The temple was built in the XIV century and rebuilt several times, the last time - in the XIX century. There is revered commander Tran Hung Dao, who won the Mongol conquerors in the XIII century, Van Suonga - the patron saint of writers, La That - the patron saint of doctors and martial arts Wu Kuan.
In the park by the lake you can sit in a café or visit the Water Puppet Show.
