It is the oldest museum in Austria. It was founded in 1811 by Archduke Johann. The museum's collection is located in several buildings in the city.
The most interesting exposition (Old Gallery) is located in the palace of Admont - paintings by Cranach, Breughel and Styrian artists XVII-XVIII centuries. New Gallery housed in the palace Herbershtayn offers for inspection paintings, drawings, sculpture of XIX-XX centuries. The castle Eggenberg is a collection of coins and medals.
