"Covered with sand Church", also known as "Dumping the church" - is the oldest church Skagen, dedicated to St. Lawrence. The church was built of brick, situated at a distance of two kilometers from the city center. In the second half of the 18th century the church was partially covered with sand from the nearby dunes that are periodically repeated and acquired threatening proportions. Believers had to dig out the entrance to the Church of every time it was served. Fight with the final burial of the church in the sand lasted until 1795, after which the church was abandoned. She collapsed, leaving only the tower. This is the only part of the church, which has survived to the present day.

This church is also known as Old Church Skagen. It was built in the Gothic style between 1355 and 1387 years. This is one of the oldest buildings in Skagen. The church had a vaulted nave with columns, and a tower with a stepped gable, added in 1475. The sacristy was on the north side, the entrance is on the south side. The church had a height of 45 meters, including the tower, whose height - 22 meters. The main part of the church was made of red brick, and the tower - from yellow brick that covered with lime. Bricks for construction were brought from Germany and Holland. To date, out of the sand can be seen about 18 meters high tower.

"Covered with sand church" in the Middle Ages it was the largest church in Vendsisel. Until 1459 it belonged to the Swedish crown, and later moved to Aalborg poorhouse.
