Albayzin - an ancient district of Granada, located on a hillside at the foot of which a multitude of waters of the picturesque river with a beautiful name Darro.

Albaycín is the architectural heritage of the Moorish period in Spain. Its narrow winding streets, the layout and architecture of the surviving buildings transport us in the time of prosperity of the Muslim culture, common during the colonization of the area by the Moors. It was as a "repository of folk architecture of the Moors' Albaycín was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

So far, there remained a lot of Moorish dwellings such as houses surrounded by green gardens, which are called "Carmen". Preserved ancient baths and the time of construction of the 11th century, decorated with beautiful domes and capitals works of ancient masters. Most churches today are located in Albaycín, they were built on the sites of ancient mosques. More often than not the mosque itself was destroyed, but preserved only the minaret, which was reconstructed in the bell tower. These churches include the Church of San Jose, erected on the site of a Muslim mosque of the 11th century, and the church of San Juan de los Reyest Gothic bell tower of which is a former minaret, dating to the 13th century.

Once Albaicín was the residence of the rulers of Granada. In the 14th century it became the center of Albaycin prosperity of trade and crafts. It produces jewelery and weapons, items made of silk and brocade, dishes and other household items. On the streets of modern Albaycín still has many shops, stores and shopping stalls.
