Covered fish ranks, whose Swedish name Feskekörka literally translates as "fish church", got his resemblance building with Gothic church. In fact, everything is much more prosaic - is the oldest covered market of fish and seafood, located on the banks of the canal in the center of Gothenburg Rosenlund. The ranks were opened November 1, 1874 and October 10, 2013, they received the status of an architectural monument. To date, the fish market is owned by the city administration.
Fish series were built by architect Victor von Gothenburg Gegerfeltom and absorbed the traits of Norwegian wood and stone Gothic churches. Their style is a mix of national romanticism and formal experimentation. Building mostly consists of a steep roof, which almost reaches the ground. The interior of the series used an open design with powerful beams, but no columns. Daylight into the building through the seven windows located on the sides, and two large dormer roof.
The building rows of fish is unique in its design and one of the most recognizable symbols of Gothenburg. When was the construction of a new fishing port in Majnabbe in 1910, the fish market on a commercial scale, moved there, however, the ranks of fish on the banks of Rosenlund are still the main destination for lovers of fish and seafood.
Covered ranks are now well-known tourist attraction in Gothenburg, where visitors can both buy and taste the seafood in the restaurants located in the building.
