Bhadra reserve is located on the slopes of the Western Ghats, in the lush tropical jungles of Karnataka. Initially, when in 1951 the area was declared a nature reserve, it was called the Valley Preserve Jagar, in the name of a small village, which was located not far from this place. But in 1974, the reserve began to wear the name of Bhadra, like flowing river on its territory, besides its area was increased from 77 sq km to 492 sq km. And in 1998, it was declared a nature reserve and a kind of tiger reserves. For this it was necessary to implement a plan to transfer 26 villages that are located in its territory. Villages moved to a distance of 50 km from the borders of the reserve.
Bhadra is divided into two parts - the western Lakavalli-Muthodi Bababudangiri and east, and is surrounded by picturesque hills and steep mountains, such as for example the highest mountains in the state - and Mullayanagiri Kallahathigiri. In the reserve there are several large waterfalls.
The Bhadra home to many animals and birds that thrive in this conservation area. There you can watch the parrots, peacocks, partridges, elephants, deer, gaur, Indian and, of course, tigers. According to the national program for the protection of these animals in the reserve brought the wounded and weak tigers, and at the moment its territory is home to about 33 of these huge cats. Among the trees are mainly dominated by hardwoods, only about 120 species, including teak and rosewood.
The most opportune time to visit the reserve is from November to March. In its territory it has been set up mini-hotels for tourists wanting to see the beauty of Bhadra's attendants.
