Long Market - an area of ​​Gdansk, which is one of the most famous tourist attractions of the city.

Founded in the 13th century, the area was first used as a trading road leading to the market. Soon after the bloody capture of Gdansk by the Teutonic Knights, the street was the main artery of the city. The official German name Langgasse appeared in 1331, the Polish version of Dlugi Targ was introduced only in 1552. Before the partition of Poland Street also called the Royal Route, because there was held a solemn way to the city during a visit to Gdansk, the Polish monarchs. During the visits of monarchs here feast, fireworks and festivities. On the street lived the rich nobles, merchants and citizens who held important city posts.

In the 14th and 15th centuries on Saturday on Long market traded meat, and in the area between Neptune Fountain and City Hall sold live pigs. It also arranged the execution of witches, heretics and criminals, which, however, were nobles or legal citizens. The rest of the executions were carried out elsewhere.

In the late 19th century on the Long market appeared tram tracks, which were removed after the war, during the reconstruction. During the Second World War, the vast majority of buildings on the street were destroyed.
