Bergkirchen Church in Eisenstadt, Austria is, as is clear from its name, on a hill. Other her name - Haydn church - was given to her in memory of the great composer lived in Eisenstadt for most of his life. Since 1932, here is the mausoleum containing the remains of the musician. But it is worth noting that in 1954, Haydn's head was kidnapped and transported to Vienna.

Bergkirchen - a relatively young church, its construction began in 1715 and lasted almost 100 years. When used construction drawings Prince Paul Esterhazy First, on which he spent much of his time, but unfortunately was not able to see the dream come to life, as has been the victim of the plague in 1713.

That Paul founded his own parish family Esterhazy and erected on the site of the future bergkirchen small chapel, which became the first member of Kalwaria Mountain, numbering a total of 10 chapels, 18 altars, a lot of niches, stairways, caves and passages of stone and wood. The whole composition was to embody the suffering of Christ (Way of the Cross), and attracted many pilgrims who began to call it the eighth wonder of the world. Years later the Austrian writer Reinhold Schneider described the mountain in his work "Winter in Vienna."

The south tower is equipped with a treasury of bergkirchen, which exhibited precious artifacts acquired by the Esterházy family in different periods of time.

Under the church is the crypt - the burial place of person close to the family of Esterhazy. Honor awarded to rest there some relatives, musicians and servants became almost family relatives.

Joseph Haydn had a special attachment to the church and some of the greatest of his works were first heard it in its walls by the author. In September 1800 he visited the Eisenstadt listeners became Sir William and Lady Emma Hamilton.
