Acrocorinth (translated from Greek means "Upper Corinth") - an acropolis on a huge monolithic rock, which rises above the ruins of the once magnificent ancient city of Corinth. Acrocorinth is considered one of the most impressive acropolises Greece. Many beautiful myths and legends envelop this interesting place.

Acrocorinth was continuously inhabited from the Archaic period to the beginning of the 19th century, although, of course, the first settlements appeared here much earlier. Thanks to its excellent strategic position on the impregnable cliff, creating an excellent opportunity for the protection and control of the Isthmus of Corinth, the area of the acropolis has always been of particular interest to the conquerors. And the presence in its territory of fresh-water springs make this place even more attractive.

For many centuries, the fortress has repeatedly changed its owners changed and the castle itself. Thoroughly strengthened and expanded the Byzantine acropolis, making it a truly spectacular fortifications. After the Fourth Crusade Akrorinf fell to the Crusaders. Behind them on a hill dominated by the Venetians and then Turks, each of which makes its own changes and additions to the architecture of the fortress. In ancient times, at the highest point of a temple of Aphrodite Acrocorinth. Later, on the site of the temple is a Christian church, which was later converted into a mosque by the Turks (like most of the temples in Greece during the period of Turkish rule).

Today Akrorinf is one of the most important medieval monuments of Greece and its summit offers stunning panoramic views. Every year it is visited by many tourists from all over the world.
