Church of St. Kunibert is one of twelve large Romanesque basilica of Cologne and is considered the youngest of them. There is a legend about the creation of this temple, to learn that in the VI century missionary named Kunibert founded the Church of St. Clement, and he went on to become not only a bishop, but the adviser of the king, and after his death he was buried in this church. In 1210, under the auspices of the Archbishop of Trier was built a new church, made up of old buildings remained only the crypt.

Basilica of St. Kunibert was destroyed several times during its existence. The reasons were fires or fighting and bombing. The main damage to the building was done during World War II, reconstruction work for the return of the original appearance of the church lasted for several decades and could only be completed in 1985.

The architecture of the temple is a three-aisled basilica, to which was attached to the western part of the square tower, as well as the lobby. The central nave composed of three tiers and is limited to rectangular columns at the bottom. Amazingly beautiful sculptures adorn the columns sredokrestiya - they depict scenes of the Annunciation. It is believed that in 1439 they created the Conrad Kuyn.

Under the choir of the Basilica you can see the crypt where the "bucket Kunibert", which is a well of water, healing infertility. Previously, it was common belief that children under his birth played at the bottom of this well, together with the Virgin Mary. And the well itself is not dark and scary mine, and a very bright place. Currently, the mine is closed the hatch, made Elmar Hillebrand.
