Aygelshtaynskie gate, located in the northern part of Cologne, is one of those that are well preserved to this day. This is the true attraction of the city, which attracts with its unique and majestic appearance of numerous tourists.
Aygelshtaynskie gate for a long time has a protective function. Began its existence in the XIII century, they had to go through multiple restructuring and reconstruction. Despite the fact that because of the bombing during the Second World War, the gate was destroyed almost completely, the government of Cologne decided to complete the restoration of historical landmarks.
During its existence Aygelshtaynskie gates it was not only one of the main entrances to the city, but were for several centuries and customs point, which collect payments, and a prison and courthouse. This building is a building of three floors with magnificent lateral towers, between which there is a large portal. In the left part of the building you can see the sculpture, depicting a peasant, which symbolizes not only freedom, but also the complete independence of the city and all its inhabitants from the former feudal obligations. In the eastern side of the gate you can see the lifeboat. Its placement is no coincidence, it is a real monument in memory of sailors who died in one battle cruiser "Köln" during a battle with the British fleet in 1914.
