The Military Museum is located in the city of Chaves Menage tower - the surviving part of the town's castle.

Chaves - city and municipality of the same name, which is 10 km from the Spanish border and 22 km south of the Spanish city of Verin. Municipality of Chaves is the second largest population in the district of Vila Real, a city of the same name was founded in 1258. Chaves Castle was built in the XIV century by King Dinis I farmers, and during the Reconquest, when there was an active struggle for the land in the Iberian Peninsula between the Moors and Christians, is protective. The castle was built in the highest part of the city, today is the historic center and the pedestrian zone of the city of Chaves. Surviving Menage tower is square, the top of the tower is equipped with loopholes. The tower has a height of 28 meters, which is equivalent to the height of four-storey house. In 1938 the castle was listed as a monument of national importance in Portugal.

Inside the tower today is the Military Museum of the city of Chaves. The museum occupies six floors. Among the exhibits there are military uniforms, armor, weapons, flags, dating from the Middle Ages and ending our time. Weapons and armor of the Middle Ages mainly represented on the first two floors of exhibits on the upper floors will tell about the participation of Portugal in World War I and colonial wars in Angola and other countries.
