Located in the heart of Burgos Cathedral is one of the most beautiful and majestic Gothic temple buildings, not only in Spain but throughout Europe. Its construction was started July 20, 1221 by King Ferdinand III. Built on the site of an old Romanesque basilica, the cathedral must be the main temple of the kingdom of Castile. The altar of the cathedral was consecrated in 1260, after which work on the construction of the temple were stopped almost 200 years. The final completion date for the construction considered in 1567 - that's when the spire was completed, towering above the main ceiling of the temple.

Burgos Cathedral is a masterpiece of Spanish Gothic architecture .  The main facade of the cathedral overlooks the Plaza de Santa Maria .  In the lower tier of the facade has three arches, the center of which is the main entrance to the building .  The central part of the facade is decorated with a large window-Rose .  The third floor is a gallery, which houses statues of the kings of Castile .  Above this is a magnificent statue of Our Lady with Child .  Facade crowned two delicate pointed towers with spiers .  The oldest, the southern facade of the building is notable for its portal, is a true masterpiece of 13th century sculpture .  The portal is decorated with magnificent statues of Christ and the Twelve Apostles .  In terms of the Cathedral is in the shape of a Latin cross with three naves, crossed the transept .  The main altar of the cathedral, founded in the 16th century, the brothers Rodrigo and Martin de la Aya, decorate in the style of the Gothic image of Santa María la Mayor .
