Broome Historical Society Museum is located in a building built in the late 1890s as a shop. From 1910 to 1979 the building was custom, and today it is one of the best regional museums in Australia, because of the existing volunteers.
Almost immediately after the construction of the building was opened flagship store of "Newman Goldstein & Co". It had everything we needed for the company's fleet consisting of 22 ships sailing lugger, 2 sloops and steam boats. The shop was also an important commercial enterprises providing pearl divers and buy up pearls produced by other fleets.
In 1904 the building, which then settled customs, was destroyed by termites, and despite public protests, in 1910, a government agency has moved into the building of the store. In 1979, the County Council Brumshir bought this building for the future museum, which was opened in 1981.
Today, the museum features several exhibitions, introducing the history of the pearl industry, aboriginal culture of Western Australia, a one-day war, and Broome lifestyle collection of memorabilia.
