Museum of the City of Brest was originally opened as a branch of the regional museum. He joined relatively recently - July 25, 1998. Since 2007, the museum acquired independence. In 2008, the museum building was repaired and reconstructed.
The museum is located in four halls. It tells the story of the ancient Eastern Slavic city of birch bark, is located on the island, which is now the Brest Fortress, the origin of the city of Brest-Litovsk, transferred to the territory of Kobrin Vorstadt in the construction of the Brest Fortress, the city's history at a time when he was on the territory of Poland and was called Brest-over-Bug, heavy military trials that have befallen the city at the time. World War II and post-war life.
The permanent exhibition of more than 800 exhibits, the museum area - about 200 square meters. The museum exhibits: a rich collection of cold and small arms and military uniforms; models of the reconstructed city of birch bark and archaeological sites in the area of the Brest Fortress; historical documents and photographs; vintage postcards of Brest; antique furniture, home furnishings and everyday life; hoard of ancient coins, ancient printed books, found during excavations of the XVI century tiles and much more.
The museum organizes interesting excursions on the history of Brest for adults and schoolchildren. Here are annually held exhibitions on the history and archeology of the native land, as well as on the history of the Great Patriotic War.
