The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was built in Brest in 1856. The majestic cathedral is a monument of late classicism. Three-aisled Catholic Church in terms of a square.
The temple was built in the central square of Brest, which is now called Lenin Square. On the other side of the square stands a bronze statue of Lenin traditionally outstretched hand. The hand indicates the direction ... in the Holy Cross church, which is very symbolic.
In 1948 the church was closed. During the conversion of the church into a museum, with a side towers were demolished and redesigned interior. Since the mid 1950s there opened museum.
The building was destroyed during the Soviet period, obviously, because it has excellent acoustics, and it set a beautiful old organ. Here and in the previous government conducted concerts of organ music.
In Soviet times, until 1990, the church was located exposition of the Brest Regional Museum. Now the museum is here moved to another location.
In our time, in 2001, the church was renovated and handed over to the faithful Catholics. It was transferred the greatest relic - the old icon of the Mother of God in the salary of the XVII century. From former times preserved and wonderful stained glass windows depicting the Virgin Mary, the apostles and saints.
The church regularly hosts Mass. As in previous years, the leadership of the church has kindly offered to everyone from time to time to enjoy the concert of organ music. Here performed as a spiritual and classical and even contemporary organ music.
