Brest Cathedral of St. Simeon the Monk - the oldest Orthodox church in Brest. It was founded April 22, 1862. The ceremony was attended by over 10 thousand people. Construction was entrusted to the architect V. Polikarpov. November 8, 1865 was accomplished the procession of the Brest Fortress in the new cathedral in honor of his consecration.
Cathedral was decided to build instead of the burned in 1815 when the wooden church of St. Simeon Monastery. In 1830-40 years the city of Brest was moved to another location in connection with the construction of the fortress. For the temple was chosen the most beautiful and visible from afar high place.

In 2005, the temple was a monument to Athanasius of Brest (1595-1648 gg.) - The holy martyr, who was abbot of St. Simeon Monastery of Brest.
The cathedral is stored Orthodox shrines: the relics of the Reverend Martyr Athanasius, the abbot of the Brest, St. Nicholas, St. Sergius of Radonezh, Venerable Euphrosyne of Polotsk, St. Innocent of Radonezh.
