Cathedral of Saint-André in Bordeaux was consecrated in honor of St. Andrew. It is located on the square Pey-Berland near Rohan Palace.

This temple was built on the site of an early Christian church - so in historical documents preserved mention of the temple, which was built on this site in the III century, another church was built in the beginning of the IX century. Construction of the Cathedral of St. Andrew started here in the XI century. His consecration took place in 1096, but still a temple erected for nearly five centuries.

Often cathedrals of France became a place of detention crowned marriages, and this fact became a remarkable event in the history of the temple. In the Cathedral of St. Andrew in 1137 married Eleanor of Aquitaine and the future King Louis VII.

From XII to XVI century carried out the reconstruction and rebuilding of the cathedral - in this period, the temple will be an additional floor of the nave, the north portal, the double lancet windows and arched vaults, as well as detached from the main building tower - the bell tower in the style of Flamboyant Gothic with vosmitonnym bell set in the second half of the XIX century. During the Great French Revolution, the cathedral was only minor damage, but at the beginning of the next century, there were carried out restoration work.

Today the guests Bordeaux presents the amazing beauty of the cathedral, designed in the Gothic style. Its symmetrical towers ascend to a height of 80 meters, the facade is decorated with scenes of the Last Judgment, on which there is a window in the form of roses, decorated with floral motifs. Inside the church you can see paintings and sculptures, the earliest of which date from the XIV century, the astronomical clock in 1782, as well as organ with great sound - though modern origin.

Cathedral of St. Andrew in 1998 is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In this register he was listed as one of the temples located on the path of pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela.
