Modern Art Museum of Jewish Autonomous Region - is one of the cultural highlights of the city of Birobidzhan. The museum is located on the street Sholem Aleichem in the building of the City Palace of Culture. Its grand opening as a branch of the Far Eastern Art Museum in April 1989 .. The main initiator and founder of the museum was made by its permanent director Kosvintsev B. Yu

In July 1996, it became an independent institution, while retaining its original name. In October 2000, he was awarded the title of State cultural institution "Museum of Modern Art of the JAR", and since 2009 - is considered by the State budget institution of culture "Museum of Modern Art EAO".

Formation of the museum's collection began in 1989, it has since its opening. The museum consists of several departments: the exposition, cultural, educational and department funds. Today, the museum collections number more than 1,300 exhibits.

"Calling card" of the museum is the collection of paintings called "The Old Testament - the eyes of contemporary artists." Now the collection of the collection consists of more than 200 works of different genres and styles, created by artists from several regions of the country.

Since the opening of the museum is here that the amazing collection of paintings by artists of the Jewish Autonomous Region. Currently, there are paintings more than 30 authors of different genres, types, techniques of fine art. This collection covers the period from 70th. XX century. to the present day. For all the time the museum within its walls held more than 180 exhibitions. Also at the museum it is conducted not only the study of contemporary art, but also the work of artists of the Far East.
