Hôtel du Palais in Biarritz - a five-star hotel, located in a former residence of the wife of Emperor Napoleon III Eugenie. During his fashionableness, rich history and geographical location of this hotel in May 2011 was awarded the status of Distinction Palace - the only one on the Atlantic coast of France and one of the seven hotels in the country. Facade and roof of the hotel declared a national heritage.
The building, which was originally called "Villa Eugenia" was built as a summer residence of the French Empress. Construction was started in 1854 and the grand opening took place just over a year. Under this name the building existed until 1893, and then it became known as Hôtel du Palais. The initial appearance of the residence was created by two architects: the construction began Hippolyte Durand, and then was replaced by the court architect Louis-Auguste Kuvreshefa. A few years later was built on another floor of the villa and built a pair of auxiliary premises of economic purpose - these works have led Auguste LaFollet.
After the emperor's death in 1873, the villa became the property of the Empress Eugenie, but she was already three years later sold the building. The new owners began bankers, arranged in a villa hotel-casino. By 1893, the building was only hotel.
In the early XX century, former imperial villa was severely damaged by fire. In the years 1903-1905 was carried out its restructuring, after which the former villa of the little that remains, except that E-shaped building. The author of the reconstruction was the architect Jean-Edouard Nierman, who developed the project design interiors and facades, in the style of Louis XIII. Wall painting inside the building was painted by the painter Paul Gervais.
The Hôtel du Palais, there are 154 rooms, including a couple of royal apartments - the British King Edward VII and the Spanish monarch Alfonso XIII. The hotel also has three restaurants, a spa, swimming pool with sea water, and private access to the beach.
