Palace Bridge in Berlin connects the two banks of the river Spree and is located in the heart of the tourist town - on the famous Unter den Linden. This bridge is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable monuments, and besides, it is quite often found on postcards and posters that represent Berlin in the world. The bridge was built of stone during its construction - 1821-1824, and the project has created the famous architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Originally, this place was a wooden bridge, which is called the Dog.

Construction of the bridge in the 15th century, linked only to the need to carry through the Spree building materials, the first of which was built the Berlin City Palace. And he received the title of Canine later, when it is for him went hunting with his dog packs of aristocracy. This bridge is chosen for its entry into Berlin and Napoleon in 1806.

The first stone in the construction of the new bridge was the beginning of everything a large area to the City Palace, but at the same time, precisely because of this, and the bridge itself became the Palace. The tragic story is connected with the first opening of the bridge, which on the occasion of the wedding of the Crown Prince of Prussia opened yet unfinished. In the resulting stampede of about two dozen people died, although, for historical information, this is not reported to the public.

In 1857, we installed on the bridge 8 sculptures, which marked the victory of the War of Independence, but Schinkel, who conceived the architectural course, did not live up to these days. In the 20th century fortified bridge and the river bed widened. During the Second World Shlossbryuke, surprisingly, was not injured, and in 1943 the Germans took the sculpture, removing them from the pedestal, to avoid damage.

After the war, the bridge was on the territory of the GDR. In the early 50-ies of the bridge repaired, and on completion of the work, it was decided to rename the bridge. Now the bridge them. Marx and Engels waited in an updated form of German reunification, although in 1983 the success of negotiations culminated in the return of the sculptures of Germany, which was restored and installed on the bridge. In 1989, the Palace Bridge received new lights.

The last reconstruction was performed in 1995 in the united Germany and now the bridge is of interest as a monument of architecture, but, nevertheless, he performs and their direct responsibilities.
