Peterskirche church was consecrated in honor of the Apostle Peter. It stands at the crossroads of streets and Petersgasse Kelergesslyayn, north-west of the cathedral, in the old town of Basel. By tradition, it is oriented from east to west. Since 1529 acts as an evangelical Protestant church. Prior to her appearance on the site was a religious building, dating back to the 9th century. By 1233, it received the status of a parish church, and a little later it was attached to the monastery. In 1356, there was an earthquake that caused serious damage to buildings, and the church had to be completely rebuilt. It was then that the church was built the choir.

Today the church is a three-nave basilica - a spacious main nave using whitewashed walls shared with two lateral longitudinal naves. The walls are richly decorated with murals and paintings of biblical scenes. In the southern side nave, the chapel is Keppenbah painting "The Entombment" and a well-preserved wall paintings "The Annunciation of the Virgin Mary" (1400). Major dates from the 1620 year.

May 13, 1760 in the church there was a significant event - was christened Johann Peter Hebel, a well-known German writer. The church of St. Peter, and to this day is a font in which this ceremony took place, but rather the western wall, the bronze bust of the writer constructed and installed in 1899.
