Holy Myrrhbearers Cathedral - Russian Orthodox church, located in the beautiful city of Baku. The cathedral was built in 1909. The author of the project was a Russian architect Fyodor Wierzbicki. Funds for this project were allocated by the Ministry of Russian military and local merchant GZ Tagiyev.

Since its inception, the cathedral had regimental status, being in subjection 262 th Infantry Regiment of Salyan-reserve. Before that used the old Infantry Regiment Archangel Michael Church in the central part of the city, also preserved to this day. In 1920 the church was closed one of the first. Initially it was used as a warehouse, and after - the sports hall. During the events of January 1990, the temple bell tower were two shells, leaving it partially collapsed, walls cracked, the floor sank, and the roof collapsed. In 1991 the building was transferred to the Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Restoring the dilapidated temple began after the founding of episcopal in Baku. Thanks to the initiative of the bishop of Baku and the Caspian Right Reverend Alexander in the temple were carried out restoration work. His solemn consecration took place in May 2001. At the same time he was awarded the status of a cathedral.

The second life of the cathedral began thanks to the attention of the Azerbaijani philanthropist A. Kurbanov, by means of which in the cathedral, a series of complex repair work: erected a stone carved iconostasis, made paintings and church vessels acquired. The opening of the renewed cathedral was held in March 2003. In April of the same year the Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew I donated to the cathedral the relics of the Apostle Bartholomew. In addition, in the Cathedral of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women are also the holy Mother of God - "Caspian" and "Tikhvin".
