The oldest part of Antalya, called Kaleici. Originally it was a Roman city, then it became Byzantine, and later moved to the Seljuk Turks, and, finally, to the Turkish Ottoman Empire.

Visit the old city have the opportunity to touch the history, come down to us intact. Looking at the maze of narrow streets and the architecture of the houses of Kaleici, unwittingly plunge into the way of life and the life of generations of people who inhabited these lands before, and lived here now. It is difficult even to believe that the entire Antalya once inside these enclosing walls. Build a new building or a renovated old inside the fortress is not so simple. There are rather strict rules to preserve the architecture of the old town.

Heart Kaleici - the old port, which at one time was famous Antalya. Recently it was restored. But earlier, for more than two thousand years, he carried not decorative function, as evidenced by strong walls, preserved to our days, and guns, staring into the harbor. Antalya was the second port of Mersin in Turkey after arriving at the number of ships. In our time it was built a new dock on the west of the city and its old name is replaced with a new one. Now this place is a magnificent estuary, a marina, which is used for mooring of boats, yachts and boats used for the amusement of visitors from all over the world tourists.

Kaleiçi surrounds and protects the old Roman harbor for maintenance which, strictly speaking, was once founded the city of Antalya. Even in Roman times it was the access to the rich plains that stretch to the east of the city to the southern slopes of the Taurus Mountains.

You can enjoy a great variety of beautiful facades of houses, if you walk along the land part of the walls up the street. Some of these facades facing the street and complements the overall ensemble. In each of the households, distinguished by its highlight, there are internal gardens in which grow a variety of fruit trees. The local houses are built of stone and have ceiling made of wood. The combination of stone and wood architecture Kaleici adds its own unique flavor.

The ground floors of old buildings, usually have little or no windows on the street side, while "Jumbo" - the top floor can mimic the style of the streets to demonstrate patterned wooden ledges. Often, the upper floors are the bedrooms and other living areas. Surface of the house smoothly into the garden in the cool shade where you can relax in the summer heat on the comfortable chairs of the small tree. On this floor there were utility rooms, such as a pantry, a kitchen, a shed and a storage room.

Next is the first floor is a residential having arranged in two rows large and wide windows. Through them plenty of light, creating an additional space. Shutters of the lower row can be opened, and the upper row in most cases made of wood and without glasses. On their background stand out small skylights on the upper floors, which are covered with colored glass.

There are several entrances to the Kaleici, but the most convenient is Kalekapisi and most scenic and historically significant - Hadrian's Gate. Near the tram line, taxi rank at the entrance. Also, there has a fire brigade, a private beach, its shops and cafes, in general - is a city within a city.

Today Kaleici is almost the center of tourism, preserve the pristine appearance of new buildings which, at the same time, perfectly fit into the overall architectural ensemble. On its territory rebuilt many hotels, guest houses, restaurants and shops. There are constantly heard cries of vendors, with a request to purchase various souvenirs, jewelry and furniture coming from Eastern stores and souvenir shops. Particular attention is drawn to the beautiful hand-made carpets, among which can often be found and old paintings. On the cliff there are several cafes, which offer magnificent views of the sea and mountains.
