Rijksmuseum - a national art museum in Amsterdam, which presents the works of art as the Dutch and foreign artists, as well as historical collections.

Rijksmuseum was founded in The Hague in 1800. The then government decided that the state needs its own museum modeled on the Louvre. In 1808 the museum was transferred to Amsterdam. At first he was placed in the Royal Palace and then at the Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences, and only in 1885, for it was built a separate building. The author of the architectural design of a famous architect PJH Cuypers. He is the author of the building of the Central Railway Station in Amsterdam, which is very reminiscent of the State Museum in appearance.

In 1906 the building was rebuilt specifically to showcase the famous Rembrandt "Night Watch." At the beginning of the XXI century the building was closed for several years for reconstruction. He now meets all modern requirements, both in terms of the safety of exhibits and in terms of the convenience of visitors.

The centerpiece of the museum devoted to Rembrandt's masterpiece "The Night Watch". Besides him, the museum displays a host of other works by Rembrandt.
