The composition of the architectural ensemble of the Old-Piazza (now - the October Revolution) part of the Treasury building, which houses the Museum of Art Alatyr. The one-storey building of the museum, lishivsheesya in the twentieth century architectural masterpieces and decor of the facade, was built in 18-19 centuries for the county treasury, approved in January 1781.

Art Museum in the city of Alatyr was opened in March 1993 as a branch of the Chuvash State Art Museum. The initial exposition of the museum consisted of two hundred graphic works and paintings transferred Alatyrsky local history museum, 32 paintings from the People's Art Gallery and 53 graphic works by the artist-teacher D.S.Shuvalova. In 1995, the art museum became an independent municipal cultural institutions.

Today, the museum fund totals more than three thousand units, of which about two thousand works are the main fund. The exposition includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, as well as arts and crafts and folk art.
