This "ghost town" called Fatehpur Sikri is located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, in the north of the country. It was built in the early 1500s on the orders of Emperor Maharana Sangram Singh, better known as Rana Sanga near the ancient city of Sikri and was originally called Sikrigarh. But its new name 'Fatehpur', which means "city of victory", he received after the Mughal emperor Akbar conquered it from the Rana Sanga.

In 1571, Akbar Fatehpur Sikri made the capital of the state, and began actively to upset him. At the time, it appeared in the city many beautiful buildings, palaces and mosques. At the request of the emperor, they were all made in the Persian style, thus he "paid tribute" to his famous ancestor Tamerlane. Yet, due to the fact that the building was attended by various architects and craftsmen from all over the country, in the city's architecture has brought a lot of the culture of India, notably in small details and decorations. Almost every building is made of red sandstone, which was very common in that area, but later some buildings were rebuilt with white marble as the main building material. Unfortunately, the status of the capital belonging to the city for a brief period, from 1571 to 1585. Fatehpur Sikri was abandoned due to lack of water in it.

Fatehpur Sikri - a great place, the length of which is 3 km long and 1 km .  On three sides it is surrounded by a 11-km high wall, which all had nine gates, and on the fourth side in the days of Akbar was a great lake .  The city practically every building is a work of art .  The main building of the city is the palace complex, home to the emperor .  It consists of several separate pavilions located in a geometrically strict order .  You can also highlight the Buland Darwaza - a "gateway" to the city height of 54 meters, Jama Masjid, or Jami Mosque, the tomb of Salim Chisti - Sufi saint, after the blessing which is believed to have Akbar had a son, Salim, better known in history as the Jahangir, Sofa s-Aam - hall for public meetings, Diwan-i-Khas - room for private meetings, a beautiful palace Mariam-uz-Zamani - private apartments of the wife of the great emperor, and many others .
