Monastery of St. Nektarios - one of the most famous and popular attractions of the beautiful Greek island of Aegina, as well as one of the most important religious sites in Greece. Holy monastery is located about 6 km from the capital of the island of the same name and is located on a hill, with stunning panoramic views.

The monastery was founded in 1904 by Nectarios of Aegina and was called the Holy Trinity. In December 1908, Nectarios resigned as director of the Theological School in Athens, which had been held since 1894, and settled in the Holy Trinity Monastery as a monk. Here he lived until his death in 1920 and was buried in the monastery.

The main temple of the monastery - the impressive Church of Saint Nektarios was built not long ago. This grand structure is made in neo-Byzantine style and decorated with splendid mosaics. From the church up the hill is a steep staircase to the very proper monastic complex. Here is the church of the Holy Trinity - the oldest temple of the monastery. Near a small chapel is a marble sarcophagus, which previously rested the body of St. Nektarios, and a nearby source of holy water. It survives to this day and the monastic cell, in which the saint lived the last years of his life (open to visitors). But the main shrine of the monastery, no doubt, is the head of the saint and his miraculous power.

St. Nectarios of Aegina - one of the most famous and revered of Greek Orthodox saints (canonized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in 1961). Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to the island of Aegina to the monastery to venerate the relics of the saint to ask for help and blessings. November 9 is the day of memory of St. Nektarios. On this day there is a special pandemonium, as gathers a huge number of believers who wish to take part in a festive worship and honor the memory of St. Nektarios.
