Dёrskoe bishopric was founded by the decree of St. Stephen in the period 1000 to 1009. By this time, and the construction of the Basilica dёrskoy. Over the centuries it took on new features, but with the start of construction was a nave church with a high altar. In the years 1257-1267 under Bishop OMOD emerged from the basilica tower. In the days of Janos Hidervari bishopric (1386-1415) to the south of the chapel was added in the Gothic style, which is currently the relics of King St. László. and recently installed tombstone Blessed Bishop Vilmos aporia.

  In the 16th century during the Turkish occupation of the basilica it lost its towers: one was damaged in 1526 during the battle, the other in 1580 destroyed large explosion - it was used by the Turks as an armory. Half a century later took up the restoration of the Basilica of Italian architect Giovanni Battista Rava commissioned by Bishop Gyorgy Draskovic. The tower and the sacristy were built already under Bishop Dёrde Sicheni (1659-1681), Baroque internal decoration - with Ferenc Zichy (1743-1783), a classical facade - Jacob Handler in 1823. In the early twentieth century, the church had a dome with a Neo-Romanesque elements. During the Second World War, the roof was damaged, it restores it happened in 1968-1972 gg.

  Projects design created Hefele Menhertom, frescos and paintings of the altar - Franz Anton Maulbertsch with apprentices. Altar construction and sculpture were made at the Vienna workshop Jozsef Gotshal. The main decoration of the altar of the northern nave is the icon of the Holy Virgin Mary, the celebration which attracts many pilgrims.
