Aarhus - the second largest city in Denmark, located in the eastern part of the Jutland peninsula, in the Bay of Aarhus - Bugge. Being in Aarhus sure to visit the most important sights of the city - Den Gamle (in translation - the Old Town).
The creation of this beautiful open air museum, which is now 75 old houses collected from all over Denmark, began in 1909. Between the buildings lined winding cobbled streets reminiscent of the maze. Buildings show everyday life and crafts of the time. Almost all the houses are open to visitors. It seems a great opportunity to see a hat, shoe, toy shops, enjoy delicious pastries in a candy store, pharmacy visit, the house of a tailor and a winemaker, and kitchen utensils to look at the time.
Most of the houses in the open-air museum, dates back to the XVIII - early XIX centuries old buildings more than 560 years. All the buildings presented in the museum, collected from different regions of Denmark. For transportation facilities every brick or piece of wood dismantled, numbered every detail and re-erected the structure only at a new location in the old town of Aarhus. Today the house dismantled to larger pieces to reassemble it into a museum. Currently, in the historic center of erecting the house early XX century: the Mint in Copenhagen and the Anderson House period of Odense.
Aarhus Old Town is open to visitors all year round. It is especially interesting to visit the museum at the end of November when pre-Christmas Fair is open to the great abundance of original goods.
