Unique mansion at Gammel Square, opposite the Town Hall - House Jens Bang. This is one of the most visited buildings in the city, which is very popular among tourists because of its interesting history. The mansion was built in 1624 in the style of the Dutch Renaissance. A wealthy merchant Jens Bang built himself one of the most luxurious residences, thus confirming their status and condition.
The house is a five-storey stone building with a typically Dutch wavy gables and red tile roof. The facade is decorated with authentic modeling of sandstone, the main entrance is in the form of a small tower, which leads to a beautiful stone staircase.
Jens Bang wanted to become a member of the City Council, but the local lords refused to satisfy the desire of the merchant, in spite of its financial solvency. In retaliation Bang told to cut on the façade of his house, which went to the Town Hall Square, a small sculpture - head with his tongue hanging out. This scandalous escapade did not give any result, the merchant had not taken to the City Council. Currently, the sculpture is still in place and continue to tease passing by passers-by.
Over time, the house Jens Bang was considered the biggest Renaissance building in the northern part of Europe. Today, in the premises conducted official receptions, solemn meeting. For three hundred years, on the first floor of the mansion operates the oldest pharmacy in the city of Aalborg.
