In the Świętojańska Street is Warsaw's oldest church - the Cathedral of St.. Ian, built at the turn of XIII-XIV centuries. In 1339 the papal court here decided the dispute between Poland and the Teutonic Order. There were crowned Stanislas Leszczynski and Stanislaw August Poniatowski. Under the floor of the church lie the remains of the Mazovian princes, noble citizens. Here is buried the Polish writer Henryk Sienkiewicz. Temple did not survive, but was rebuilt in 1963.
