Tent Church of St. Martinian is part of the Ferapontov Monastery. It was built in 1641. The porch was added in the middle of the XIX century. The temple was erected over the burial of Reverend Martinian - the second founder of the Ferapontov Monastery - at the southern wall of the Nativity Cathedral. Reverend Martinian of Belozersk (born Michael) was born in 1370 in the town of Berezniki, near the Kirillov Monastery. At age thirteen, he left his parents and secretly got to St. Cyril of White Lake, about which many heard about the great ascetic. Martinian, is in perfect obedience to the teacher, became eager to imitate him. The monastery Martinian taught to read and write and, with the blessing of St. Cyril, he became engaged in the copying of books.

After a while Martinian devoted deacon and later - in the priesthood. After the death of St. Cyril (1427), the blessed Martinian went to silence on a deserted island, which is situated on a lake Vozha. Over time around it formed a small circle of monks. Reverend Martinian erected for them Transfiguration Church and organized cenobitic charter. On the explicit request of the Ferapontov Monastery brothers he becomes abbot of the monastery and leads her to a flourishing state.

Reverend Martinian was provided spiritual support to the Grand Duke Vasily Vasilyevich Dark in a difficult time for him, when the throne dishonestly claimed Dimitri Shemyaka - his cousin. Martinian had always been a champion of justice and truth. Some time later, at the request of the Grand Duke, Monk began to manage the monastery of St. Sergius of Radonezh. In the middle of the XV century, in 1455, the Reverend Martinian returned to the Ferapontov Monastery. In old age, he was seriously ill, unable to walk, and his brothers were in the church. Martinian died at the age of 85 years. In 1514, his relics were found on October 7 gaining committed memory.
