In a picturesque location on the banks of the river located Ilovlya Ethnographic Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Don Cossacks in the open air. The idea of creating such a museum came to a head one of the secretaries of the regional committee of the party back in 1979 and in May 1982 under the direction of local historian and ethnographer VV Kogitina Cossack farmstead was ready to welcome the visitors.
The museum is a moderately prosperous Cossack estate of the late 19th - early 20th century with authentic exhibits that recreate the life of the Cossacks in the pre-revolutionary period. Museum buildings were transported from nearby villages: smoking (the house) was taken from Trehostrovskogo (owned Cossack Shatsky), summer kitchen, carport and bases have been built on the site with rubble from Zadonye. The exhibits were collected from the villages and hamlets of the Volgograd region.
The museum is widely demonstrated traditions and ceremonies of the Don Cossacks. Most vividly represented holidays: seeing the service, wedding and Christmas time, Pentecost and Maslenitsa. Guests are introduced to the museum of ancient recipes of dishes: Coulagot (noodles made from dried fruit), Taranchuk (meat dish of lamb with vegetables), chebukom (zapёchёnny bream) and nardek, clotted cream, stewed fruit and mead. Anyone can take part in the traditional ceremonies of the Don Cossacks, gallop on horseback and enjoy the old Cossack cuisine.
Along with authentic everyday objects, and are located in the estate live "artifacts" - horses and poultry, which bring a special touch to the Cossack farmstead. The most valuable exhibits of the ethnographic museum is considered to be two hundred pavloposadskie scarf and a beautiful wedding dress, once belonged to Cossack Kolosov has been stored since 1846 in the village Starogrigorevskoy.
