Lithuanian born Radvilos for more than three hundred years was considered the most influential, powerful and the richest race. The genus Radvilos belonged to the following personalities: Cardinal Jurgis Radviga, great queen Barbora Radvilaitė, several bishops, 37 provincial governors, who ruled the largest and most powerful territories, as well as 22 officials of special respect and honor. For ages 16-17 in the genus Radvilos been more than ten palaces - and it is only in Vilnius. In the place where now stands the palace, formerly was located the palace building, which belonged to the great old Radvilos. Construction of the new palace was carried out in the style of Palazzo, namely the image of Paris Luxembourg Palace.

Radvilos Palace was built in the 17th century in the Renaissance style of the great hetman of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Jonusas Radvilos. The palace was built in three levels according to the sketches of the architect Ulrich. It found its place a two-storey gallery with a rich variety of ornaments. This palace is considered the most beautiful in Vilnius until the 18th century.

But time passes, and as a result of frequent wars and fires during the 18-19th centuries the palace building was almost completely destroyed. All that remains of the palace Radvilos, Vilnius was transferred to a charity.

In 1967 he started reconstruction of the building of the palace for his full recovery, but the building did not given in the proper form, even now.

Yet part of the palace of the great kind of survived. In 1990, the restoration and renovation of the building began its work branch of the Lithuanian Art Museum. In the museum are permanent exhibitions that highlight the subtle development of Western European art from the early 16th century to the present day.

The museum's collection contains a rich collection of all the major schools of painting that gives an idea about the history of the outstanding development of European art, which dates back to the Italian Renaissance. After the Second World War museum collection is largely increased due to the confiscation by order of the Soviet government of paintings that belonged to individuals, as well as the church. The most important and the outstanding value of the collection are paintings of the greatest masters of the business such as: Salvador Rosa, Goya, Van Reyzdeyl Jacob, Jacob hobbies, as well as prints by Durer, Piranesi, Rembrandt.

Gallery has several works by legendary masters and Russian schools - Roerich, Levitan, Repin and other talented individuals. Considerable interest is the collection of works by lesser-known artists from Europe 16-19 centuries. In one exhibition hall is located, which is dedicated to the former owners of the palace - known aristocratic family Radvilos. The exhibition includes 165 portraits of the entire family of noble Radvilos. Portraits engraved Hirsi Leibowitz, who was known as a master of self-taught.
