Historical and Archaeological Museum Veliki Preslav is located three kilometers to the south of the modern town of Preslav. In the IX century it was the capital of Veliki Preslav legendary Bulgarian Kingdom.

Archaeological excavations at the site of the ancient city were held regularly towards the end of XIX century. Archaeologists have done a great job to understand that initially the city was divided into two parts: the inner city, which included a full set of royal buildings (all of them were surrounded by a solid stone wall), and the outer city (also surrounded by a ten-stone wall).

Specialists were investigated ruins of palaces in the inner city: all the buildings were made of very large stones. Among the ruins of the palace was also the Grand Palace, otherwise it is called the Throne Chamber. Here archaeologists have found part of the colony, which were perfectly safe, as well as plates with various floral ornaments, which were carved by ancient craftsmen. The Throne Chamber also survived floor slabs of marble and porphyry.

The study of the outer city is stopped on fragments of shops and homes. Here, scientists have discovered the remains of the world golden church, which otherwise called Round Church, it was built around here in X century. Temple partially preserved to this day: it is the building with the atrium, and the porch, luxurious and richly decorated with marble, mosaics and ceramic tiles with patterns of glaze.

Pine forest surrounds the museum, where the air gazebo. Nearby is the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, also became a cultural monument.
