Vienna House of Artists is a venue for art exhibitions. It is located on Karlplats near the Ringstrasse.

Artist's House was built in 1865 -1868 years of Austrian art community, the oldest community in Austria, and has since served as the exhibition center of painting, sculpture, architecture and applied arts.

The architect of the building was in August Weber (1836-1903). When building we used several types of Austrian stone. Emperor Franz Joseph I laid the cornerstone. The opening took place on September 1, 1868. Artist's House was designed in the style of the Italian Renaissance. The building was extended in the beginning of 1882, received a pair of side wings, which later housed a cinema (1949), and theater (1974), and in 1882 passed the "First International Art Exhibition."

The 20th century building houses the artist was unusually low for a developing Ringstrasse. Guidelines were invited to agree to or demolition of the building, or at least significantly to rebuild. In the early 1930s, it offered to replace the historic Pavilion at the new eight-story block houses.

Another noteworthy incident was the plan of Charles Shvantsera in 1966 to build offices by IBM at the place of the House of Artists. This proposal was met with great disapproval among citizens and the media. The rising wave of protest saved the building from imminent death. Nevertheless, talk of demolishing the building rises again and again at the moment.

Today the House of Artists is a two-storey exhibition space of 2000 square meters with an extensive program of events. Media forums, exhibitions, summer festivals and a variety of thematic debates held here permanently.
