Gallery of old and new masters in the palace Shermage - it's one of the parts of the Fund's museums Varazdin, based in the palace. Also here is the archaeological department. The building of the palace was built in the XVII century. It is the epitome of the Baroque style. To the XVIII century, the palace belonged to the family of Baron Francis Prassinski and later the building passed into the possession of the family Shermage.
The exhibition titled "Contemporary Croatian Art Gallery" was opened in the Old City in 1939, and marked the beginning of a future extensive collection of the finest examples of visual art in Croatia. At the root of the collection are works by Steve Leitner and Marushevicha. In 1947, the museum moved into the palace Shermage and became known as the "Gallery of old and new masters," the name it bears today.
