The first stone of the Cathedral of Our Lady Victorious laid the Grand Master of the Order of Knights of St. John, Jean Parisot de La Valette in honor of the victory the Knights of Malta in the Great Siege of 1565. Under this stone then put specially minted in honor of this event, silver and bronze medals and a piece of parchment with the text intended for the children, which was the date - March 8, 1566. In the XVIII century the church was rebuilt in the Baroque style, and in 1753 it was attached to the tower.
