Museum of the History of Uglich - is one of the oldest private urban museums. The exposition of the museum has developed already by 1983, but the day of foundation of the museum is considered to be 31 July 1989. On this day, the visitors presented the first musical excursion program.

First, the museum called "Uglich Bells" and had the status of historical and musical. Since that time, the museum takes visitors on a regular basis - for the entire period of its existence it was attended by representatives of 51 countries. The museum was created ensemble "Uglich Bells", is not only in the museum but also on the big stage, in Vol. H. In the State Kremlin Palace and Cathedral of Christ the Savior, participated in the ceremony, when the Patriarch of Moscow presents the Order of St. Andrew.

On May 9, 2009 the museum acquired a new status. Now it is called the Museum of the History of Uglich.

The museum exhibition is located in the family house of collectors of military history and local lore Uglich Kulagin. This merchant house is at the end of the 19th century, it is richly decorated with wood carvings and is located on a quiet street not far from the city center.

The exhibition consists of three rooms, as well as the ground in the yard, where the posted exhibits related to the history of the town of Uglich with his foundation until the 20th century. The main section of the museum is connected with heroic history of Uglich region. Various historical figures are presented here in the form of mannequins in costumes of different eras - from the 15th to the 20th century.

Museum exhibits acquaint visitors with moments of ancient history of the city, its culture and the wonderful people who lived in the city and glorify him at different times. Particular attention is paid to the little-known pages of history of Uglich. The museum has an archive, which contains about five hundred units and includes more than 1,000 documents on different types of media.
