Dougga - the ruins of the ancient city, which has survived several ancient eras, successive. The town is located about 4 hours drive from Hammamet and south-east of Carthage. Historians estimate that Dougga was constructed BC Berber tribe (in translating their language "Dougga" means "meadow"). A few hundred years after its founding, Dougga has become the capital of the Numidians, whose ruler was Massinis. In the II century before our era, the city seized the Roman army. After the Romans the town was under the subordination of the Byzantine Empire. After the Roman Empire collapsed, the city seized the vandals severely damaged it. Therefore, the city was able to avoid restructuring and reach us in an almost unchanged, in contrast to large cities such as Carthage and Tunis.

Most of the most outstanding buildings were erected between the II century BC to III century AD The most famous of them - Theatre (168 BC), in which international festivals in the summer. In the ruins of the Roman villa preserved mosaic floors and walls, in gardens and courtyards were grounds fountains. From Roman rule preserved columns of the Temple of Saturn, Juno Celeste (Punic goddess Tanit in mythology). Not far from the temple of Saturn is the Capitol. It is located two temple - Jupiter (Zeus in Greek mythology) and the goddess Minerva. Earlier this place is a statue of Jupiter, but to this day almost did not survive, except the foundations stones.

Although Dugii excavated area is not the whole, this place is already a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
