Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge in Trier connects the two banks of the Moselle River: on the east side is the former Convent of St. Martin, on the west bank of the yield on the steep city street. The central pillar of the bridge is located on a small island of Moselle, protected by the state.
In the seventies of the 19th century the need for the construction of a second bridge across the river in Trier Moselle became absolutely obvious. Given the importance of preservation of the urban landscape and the natural landscape were long debates about the future structure and location of the competition for the best of his project. I considered even a variation of the steel suspension bridge, which was rejected as not fit into the overall architectural appearance of the countryside.
In 1913, construction was completed on the bridge Kaiser Wilhelm project winner Professor Meissner from Darmstadt. In the same year the grand opening and consecration of the building, the remaining films in the history of the first filming. The building is a structure of concrete mixed with natural stone, so that the bridge is not in contrast to the ancient Roman bridge and the neighboring historic buildings. Originally planned sculpture on one of the pillars of the bridge has not been established. In 1945, German soldiers blew up the bridge Kaiser Wilhelm during the retreat, but soon after the war, the bridge was rebuilt and expanded several.
