The main square is called the Moravian town Trebic Karlovo. It is somewhat similar to the Wenceslas Square in Prague. Perhaps its elongated shape, maybe because it is allowed to ride on the vehicles. Charles Square is certainly not so long as Wenceslas. Its length is 400 meters, but it is still considered to be quite large and is of interest for tourists.
Charles Square was founded in the XIV century on the site of the meadows. Increases in Třebíč was necessary market where it would be possible to deploy a spontaneous trade. Even in those days the citizens have insisted on the creation of a large area, which would not only fit seamlessly traders, but there is a place for an evening promenade. Until the XIX century it was decorated with fountains, which were demolished for some reason. According to historians, each crowned with a fountain figure of a saint. In our time, we can see the fountain instead of a monument to Cyril and Methodius. It was erected in the late XIX century, just after the city has collected the necessary amount for the sculptor and builders. Fundraising lasted for several decades.
At the Charles Square are a lot of amazing buildings. Because of frequent fires Renaissance buildings here almost did not survive. Among the most interesting buildings can be noted and painted black, which resemble each other, thanks to its decor. Their facades are decorated with sgraffito. They can be considered for a long time, since they are decorated with images of entire genre scenes.
Above the eastern part of the square you can see the tower of the main church of the city - the church of St. Martin.
