Resurrection Nunnery stands on the left bank of the river Tvertsa, the Red town, and plays an important part in the architectural appearance of Torzhok.

Resurrection Monastery was founded in the 16th century. The first time the monastery mentioned in historical documents in 1625. Resurrection Monastery was one of the outposts of Torzhok between Lithuanian and Polish invasion in the early 17th century was badly damaged at this time. Among the buildings of the monastery stands out Resurrection Cathedral and bell tower. The Cathedral Church of the Resurrection monastery was built in 1796. Here are stored "wooden letters" icon of the Resurrection, who donated the monastery of nuns, the queen Martha Ivanovna, mother of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich.

Resurrection Cathedral was updated in 1851. Cathedral had three altars: on the ground floor is a warm winter church in honor of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary with chapels of the Holy Martyrs Sofia, Faith, Love and Our Lady of Kazan, on the second floor - old church in honor of the Resurrection of Christ.

On the territory of the monastery and the church remained Beheading of St. John the Baptist, built in 1841 with the Abbess Erminingelde and stands out for its monumentality and grandeur. The project was developed by a graduate of the Temple School of the Moscow Kremlin Expedition structure IF Lvov in the beginning of his career as a provincial architect.

Church of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist has two thrones: the main - of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist and St. Seraphim of Sarov, the second is devoted to the throne of the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles.

Also survived Igumen his cell (1824), the building of sister cells (early 19th century), fragments of the walls of the monastery of the 18th century, the chapel of Our Saviour (1778). By the monastery is a stone staircase, which is embodied in their drawings and paintings of many artists.

The monastery was one of the centers of the famous Torzhok needlework. The monastery was closed in 1923-1931, respectively. Now it is building a garment factory.
